Dal Tigers Football Travel Fund

Story

Team History

After a 34-year hiatus, football finally returned to Dalhousie University in September 2010. Thanks to two Dal Alumni, Jim Wilson (MBA ‘87) and Rick Rivers, Dalhousie Football was resurrected to the delight of many. In 2016, we celebrated the 70th anniversary of football at Dalhousie. During that season the Tigers went undefeated (8-0), outscoring their opponents by over 300 points overall. The Tigers then brought home their first championship in 62 years, with several alumni from the 1954 championship squad in attendance at the championship game on Wickwire Field.

The goals of Dalhousie Football include the development of young student-athlete leaders, engagement of the football community of Halifax, and promotion of school spirit through engaging Dalhousie students, faculty, alumni, and community members.

As a club team, Dalhousie Football is funded by player fees, sponsors, and our Founders Club. The Founders Club is a group of Dal Football supporters and alumni who helped provide the start-up funds for our team.

2021 Football Season

After a one-year hiatus due to COVID-19, football is back at Dalhousie! Our Head Coach and General Manager, Mark Haggett, worked very hard throughout the pandemic to recruit 85 players to camp – the largest to date and a very impressive group of football players. Our players are excited to be back on the field and travel to away games again.

Safety is our prime focus. All players, coaches, trainers and volunteers have been double vaccinated, and we are closely following Dalhousie’s COVID-19 Protocols (and those of the Nova Scotia Chief Public Health Officer).

Why Our Team Needs Your Support

COVID-19 has had a big impact on our team’s operating costs. To practice safe distancing, we need to take two busses to away games instead of our usual one. This increases our travel budget by $9,000. With the province’s recent announcement that Phase 5 in Nova Scotia has been delayed until Oct 4, we have assumed that we will have limited (or no) gate revenue from home games. The team’s first three games are away games, and our last three regular season games are at home. To view our game schedule this season visit https://dalfootball.ca/schedule/

With your donation, you can help our players stay safe and have a great fall season! If you would like more information about this campaign or how to make a gift, please contact Jim Wilson at jimwilson699@gmail.com or (902) 456-3111.

Go Tigers! I played for this team for 3 years. I was the game day announcer for my last year at Dal as well. Highlight of my time at Dalhousie, no doubt. Never got to hoist the trophy myself, but donating money and staying in touch as an alumni is almost as sweet. Keep dominating! Jordan Wright
