Vision
The Women in Politics Society (WiP) is dedicated to empowering and supporting women at Dalhousie who are studying, pursuing careers or simply passionate about politics.
Through education, networking and advocacy, we are dedicated to increasing the representation of women in political spaces across Dalhousie, Nova Scotia and Canada. By fostering meaningful dialogue and supporting the professional, educational and social development of women, we are building stronger female allyship and gender equity in politics.
Story
In the wake of extremist and, more often than not, misogynist politics rising across the world, WiP’s founding members struggled to find safe and welcoming spaces on campus to talk about politics. In times where policy actions are scaling back access to abortion, fighting against financial and intellectual independence and stubbornly holding up barriers to gender parity in representative democracies, women need spaces to band together and contribute to real change for women’s rights and representations.
Building on the Women in Politics Scholarship, founded by Dalhousie alumni Sarah Dobson and Grace Evans, WiP creates opportunities for future generations of women at Dalhousie to have their voices heard.
We envision a future where women lead and are fully represented across public, private, and nonprofit political spheres. WiP is here to stay – and we’re just getting started. Join us in challenging the “Old Boys’ Club” and advancing lasting gender equality in politics.
Strategy
This fundraiser goes hand in hand with our Women in Politics Fall Social, on October 23, 2025, which aims to bring students, faculty and working professionals together to foster critical dialogue, build relationships and most importantly, celebrate female presence and successes in political fields.
The Social is part of our larger efforts in bringing women together to make lasting connections with educators and professionals, while building supportive relationships with fellow students. By partnering with other societies, departments and university offices, WiP is building a more connected, engaged and inclusive campus.

Impact
Women in Politics has partnered with Sarah Dobson and Grace Evans, founders of the Women in Politics Scholarship, to raise funds for this Social and fundraiser.
Half of all donations will support the Women in Politics Scholarship, which awards $1,000 annually to two female-identifying political science students at Dalhousie demonstrating strong academic achievement, helping remove financial barriers to their education.
The other half will support the Women in Politics Society, covering venue rentals, event costs, and administrative expenses, allowing the Society to expand its capacity and better serve the student body through professional, social, and educational initiatives.
